Fighter’s Fury went down to Seasons Beatings with two things in mind, Interviews & footage. While down there, Free1up, Chauncy TRU Talon and SynKyller were trying to get as many interviews we could get. Synkyller and Free1up’s main goal was Daigo or GamerBee. We at Fighter’s Fury were not leaving “Buckeye Country” without an interview from both or one of them, and we did just that.
Day one (Friday), everybody is playing casuals getting ready for teams in several hours. Daigo is no where to be found, however two hours before 3 vs 3 Super Street Fighter IV teams, Momochi and Choco Blanka came from the hotel and were playing 3rd Strike casuals. Seeing that they were very busy, we decided to ask other players for interviews for Day two ( We didnt do any interviews on the first day. We felt it would be to much of a strain on the players). An hour before teams, I see Gamerbee by the bowling alley…. By himself. if that was Daigo, he would have swarms of fans asking for him to autograph their sticks or to take pictures. However that was not the case with Gamerbee, he was just sitting on the railing taking in the atmosphere. We didnt see his translator, however this was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
We approached him and introduce ourselves and we were pleasantly surprise that he understood about 65% of our dialect. However he was still struggling with some words, we then found a friend that can translate. After asking him for an interview, GamerBee stated that he’ll do one this weekend, however we must find him. Day two, Lance, Chauncey and myself arrived at the venue at separate times however we came up with a pact, “Find some one to interview, bring them to room 7″. Before We go any further, we would like to thank Godlike Entertainment for allowing Fighter’s Fury to acquire their own room for interviews. During the morning we were able to interview great players such as Mike “The” Ross, BLG members Filipino Champ and JuiceBox but we were unable to interview one of the international “Fab Five” until early afternoon. Big Shel saw GamerBee and his entourage coming in the door and he was able to approach him and ask again for an interview. Dale (his translator) explained it to him and he followed Shel into the room. In the room, Big Shel and Free1up asked several questions…..
During the interview, Big shel was not nervous, he was just anxious and excited, thus causing him to sound like he was nervous in the interview. However that was not the case. just two and a half months ago, Gamerbee made one of the greatest upsets in EVO Championship series history against one of the best professional fighting gamers this world has ever known, Justin Wong. And yet here he is, two feet away from us, with that quirky smirk we’ve seen him do at several tournaments. After the interview, Gamerbee and his translator expressed their opinion of Free1up’s Youtube channel (who knew that Gamerbee is a fan??) and we parted ways.
What happened next, was just a shock…
After the win, I was near our interview door waiting on Chauncy to finish interviewing the two female Samoan Guilty Gear players from Hawaii, Gamerbee walks by and takes a call and was having a conversation with either friends or family. We had to get an opportunity to interview him quickly so I banged on the door for the camera and I was able to catch the tournament winner and interview him briefly, and I do mean briefly.
What made this interview so great, is that we knew we would have to find some one online to translate the first 20 seconds of the video, if not all of it, however out of the blue, Chris Hu approaches and helps out translating for GamerBee. After the interview, we shook hands and we congratulate the champ on a job well done. Fighter’s Fury would like to thank Godlike entertainment again for throwing an excellent major. We would also like to thank the international pros for coming out as well as the West Coast / East Coast / down south players for showing up as well and we would like to also thank Hori, Mad Cats and the rest of the F.G.C for believing in our genre and our day to shine in the light is just around the corner.
As for GamerBee? Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule and interview with Fighter’s Fury and after this win, we wont see you seating alone on the rails any more.
