Fighter’s Fury @ Capcom’s Fight Club

After the success of Super Street Fighter IV, Capcom announced Marvel vs Capcom 3. To most it seem that this was out of the blue, however Capcom stated that MvC3 was in production since since the first quarter of 2008. Since the Captivate event in April of this year, Capcom has slowly shown off the game to the public while introducing new (and familiar) characters to the roster over the last four months. Since that time, Capcom has had public showings (one at EVO Championship Series and another time at San Diego’s Comic Con) of the game, however last night was their first Fight Club for Marvel vs Capcom 3.

One of our writers (Big Shel) was in attendance and here is what he has to say about the event;

I arrived in Chicago late afternoon to attend the Fight Club. The event did not start till 8 pm Central standard time, however I wanted to get in line for the event early. I got to the location around 4 pm CST, hoping I make it to be one of the first hundred players. Capcom stated on their Capcom Unity site that the first 100 would get a surprise, however if you take a glimpse of the video, you can fully see I was not in the first hundred people;

While standing in line I got a chance to converse with Chicago Natives about the game and see only two cosplayer (Two females. One was dressed as Dante, the other Tron Bonne Minus the robot. Later on, her boy Friend had the ServoBot head. It was too dark to take pics when I finally met them). As I waited for hours to past, the parking lot was getting packed with enthused fans. Eventually Security and Capcom Staff got around to separate the mob by description. The 1st hundred were escorted to the door. Press was shuffled to the opposite side of that very door and the rest of the “Sea of Humanity” was told to stay put. While networking with local and national press personal, I was able to have a few discussions about the game with Seth Killian (Capcom’s community manager) and I even had a chance to do a brief interview with Keits (Senior Editor for Shoryuken.com);

After talking with Keits, we were allowed into the building. When I got in the venue, I began filming;

(WARNING! The Next Three Videos are EXTREMELY LOUD! PLEASE TURN DOWN YOUR VOLUME!)

as you can see from the video, there was a lot of set ups. All the setups were on the Sony PlayStation 3 console. Some setups had pad (Dual Shock 3 Controllers) while others had Marvel vs Capcom 2 TE sticks. When it was my turn to play, I couldn’t film so I had to put down the Camera. I grabbed the controller and like I’ve been saying for weeks, my first play of the game would be with “Team Syn” (Doctor Doom / Super Skrull / Dormmaru. Well that was the first Team Syn for MvC3, Since Wesker has been announced, Doom is replaced by wesker). I went against a local guy who picked Super Skrull/ Captain america / Wolverine. Since the last time Capcom has shown this game to the public, they added secondary colors to characters (before people couldn’t pick the same character due to only one set of color for that character). my opponent had the original color for super skrull and Captain America, but had a black /silver color scheme for Wolverine (much like color #4 for Cyclops in mvC2). Dormmaru and Doom had original colors, but S. Skrull was in a burnt orange on light Grey Color scheme.

We started to play. Since this was my first time playing. I didnt know what buttons did what and we couldnt change buttons or do a button check. It was on since the announcer said.. GO! I was battling for the Health Lead in the first 30 seconds, then he killed Doom. Then I had Skrull in and I took out Wolverine and Capt. He took out Skrull with his Super Skrull’s Human Torch Hyper, and it was 6 seconds left before I would lose so I used Dormmaru’s Flame hyper to get the K.O. As it now’s stands. Team Syn is 1-0. I fist bumped my opponent and went around the rest of the event to converse, to film and most importantly to network.

While walking around, I stumbled upon a peculiar setup. This setup was next to the main door, but what made it stood out was that I noticed a lot of tournament savvy players were hovering around it. When I got closer, fL0E was there, Big Marcus was in line eating some pizza waiting his turn as well as a few other local named players. This was the Set up to sit back and watch. This is where the action was;

After watching some mid level MvC3 gameplay from the tournament guys (it’s only mid level because the game isn’t even out yet, I am sure it will become high level come the end of April 2011), I went around the venue some more and at this time, Capcom started to show the game on the big screen.

After watching a couple matches on that screen, I went out side to interview fL0E for Fighter’s Fury (coming later on today) and then I proceeded to go to my car and get on with my trek home.

All in all it was a great event and Fighter’s Fury would like to thank Seth Killian, Lauren and the rest of the Capcom staff there for allowing us to film and participate in the event. We wish nothing but good fortune for the company and we look forward to reviewing, if not playing Marvel vs Capcom 3 in 2011.
